It Takes Just a Few Minutes to Start Your Barbering Career Below
Barbering is a Specialty of Cosmetology
Cosmetology is a profession that is everything about making the human anatomy look more beautiful with the application of cosmetics. So of course it makes sense that many cosmetology schools are regarded as beauty schools. Most of us think of makeup when we hear the term cosmetics, but actually a cosmetic may be anything that improves the appearance of a person's skin, hair or nails. If you want to work as a barber, the majority of states require that you take some kind of specialized training and then become licensed. Once licensed, the work settings include not only New York barber shops, but also such businesses as spas, hotels and resorts. Many barbers, once they have gotten experience and a customer base, open their own shops or salons. Others will begin seeing customers either in their own homes or will travel to the client's home, or both. Cosmetology college graduates go by many names and work in a wide variety of specialties including:
• Hairstylists
• Beauticians
• Barbers
• Manicurists
• Nail Technicians
• Makeup Artists
• Hair Coloring Specialists
• Estheticians
• Electrolysis Technicians
As already mentioned, in every state practicing barbers must be licensed. In some states there is an exception for cosmetologists in general. Only those performing more skilled services, for example barbers or hairstylists, are required to be licensed. Other people working in cosmetology and less skilled, including shampooers, are not required to become licensed in those states.
